Takoma Businesses on the Move

Two longtime Takoma Park businesses, S&A Beads and Polly Sue’s Vintage Shop, will be moving to new locations in the Takoma commercial district.

Takoma Park institution, S&A Beads, will move to 235 Carroll Street, NW, its third location in Takoma. This new, larger space, located next to Takoma Central and Busboys and Poets, will allow the business to expand, offer additional workshops and classes, display more merchandise and add a new Bead Bar.  Currently located at 6929 Laurel Ave and originally at 7050 Carroll Avenue, S&A Beads was launched in 1987 by the late Susan Hunter Silverman and is now run by her daughter, Emily Hunter Silverman, general manager. S&A Beads has long been known for its collection of beads, unique gifts, minerals and crystals, its repair and design services, classes and workshops, its cultural and spiritual artifacts from around the world and its all around good energy. The Laurel Avenue location will close on May 20th and the new shop, now under construction, will open in early June. https://www.beadstore.com/

Also making a big move is Polly Sue’s Vintage Shop, currently located at 6915 Laurel Avenue. Polly Sue’s will move to the highly-visible, corner location where S&A Beads operates today at 6929 Laurel Ave. This Takoma favorite has been part of the community for 17 years and is well-known in the DC area for its unusual and well-curated collection of vintage clothes, shoes and accessories. The shop sells classic and unusual pieces from the 1940’s to the 1980’s which are selected by the trained eye of owner Susan Collings and staff, Jackie Jackson and Jude Garret, formerly of Takoma Park’s Now and Then. The shop now also offers unique, vintage men’s clothing through DC area favorite, Bespoke Not Broke. Polly Sue’s Vintage Shop will open in its new location in June. http://pollysuesvintage.tumblr.com/
