Main Street Takoma Committees

The Main Street Takoma committees are the driving force of the Main Street Takoma iniative. The committees are entirely volunteer and are open and welcoming to newcomers who are interested in making a difference in Old Takoma. Each committee meets monthly. Design Committee

The Design Committee focuses on the physical appearance and health of the community. Projects of the committee include:

• Clean-Up Days in April and October to make Old Takoma sparkle: plant, weed, mulch and pick up trash.
• Holiday store-front window display competition and window design support
• Flower Pots and Key Hole Garden -- installation and maintenance of flowers in front of businesses
• Directional signage
• Adopt a Tree/Adopt a Spot -- encouraging business owners and residents to committ to the care of a particular area
• Facade Improvement Program, with matching grants from the State of Maryland Neighborhood Business Works program and from DC Council. At this time, all grant funds have been allocated, but the City of Takoma Park and DC Ward 4 may have similar programs. Call the OTBA office to check on details.

Economic Restructuring Committee

The Economic Restructuring Committee works on issues of business mix, retention and recruitment, networking with the various levels of government, and so on. Projects include:

• Energy Survey and Audits
• Wal-Mart Survey for Local Businesses
• Market Analysis Report and Strategic Action Plan
• Revolving Loan fund for Businesses
• Parking -- issues of availability and management of it
• Outreach to commercial property owners
• Listing of commercial properties
• Business assessments
• Quarterly meetings for business owners

Promotions Committee

The Promotions Committee is responsible for both events and activities in the Old Takoma area as well as outreach and advertising to a broader audience. Current projects include:

• Art Hop
• Takoma Movement Arts Festival
• reCYCLE
• Takoma Park Street Festival
