Lost Sock Roasters (Serving Call your Mother Bagels)
and Turning Natural Coming to Takoma Theater with Children’s Hospital in 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rock Creek Property Group and Children’s National Bring Local Retailers, Turning Natural and Lost Sock Roasters, to Historic Takoma Theatre ProjectWashington, D.C. (November 27, 2018) – Rock Creek Property Group, in partnership with Children’s National Health System, is pleased to announce that Turning Natural and Lost Sock Roasters have signed leases to anchor the retail space at the historic Takoma Theatre project. These exciting beverage and food operators join anchor tenant Children’s National’s Healthy Mind Brain Center at the 23,000 square foot former theater, located at Butternut and Fourth Streets, NW a few blocks from the Takoma Metro station.

Lost Sock Roasters is a small-batch artisanal coffee roaster located in the Brightwood Park neighborhood of Washington, DC. Lost Sock Roasters will feature fresh brewed coffee drinks and food from the popular Call Your Mother café in Petworth. Founded and run by former college roommates, Jeff Yerxa and Nicolas Cabrera, this will be the first stand-alone retail outpost for this successful roastery that currently sells wholesale and at local cafes such as Call Your Mother and Anxo Cidery.

Turning Natural is a juice bar and café that features cold-pressed juices, nutritious food options, and natural ingredients. This will be Turning Natural’s sixth DC-area location. Other locations include Anacostia, Shaw, and H-Street. Turning Natural is run by founder Jerri Evans, a former Aeronautical Engineer who started Turning Natural to bring better, healthier choices to underserved communities.

“We have been working closely with the local ANC, Old Takoma Business Association, Takoma Theatre Conservancy, neighbors and other stakeholders for several years to bring the right mix of tenants and retailers to this unique space. We made a commitment to identify and assist local neighborhood retailers to come into the property and are thrilled that Turning Natural and Lost Sock Roasters will now be in Takoma,” says Gary Schlager, Principal at Rock Creek Property Group. “Takoma Theatre serves as the southern anchor for the entire neighborhood commercial corridor and we could not be more pleased with the mix of tenants we have signed to activate the property and the street for everyone’s enjoyment and benefit.”

After sitting vacant for more than a decade, Rock Creek Property Group acquired the 1920’s-built theater in 2015 and began a multi-million-dollar restoration process. Featuring exposed original steel trusses, soaring ceilings, skylights and restored original signage and marquee entrance, the Takoma Theatre will be an architecturally unique and exciting home for Children’s National’s new state-of-the-art Healthy Mind Brain Center serving children in the areas of autism, hearing and speech, behavioral medicine, and developmental medicine.

The project, including both the retail and the Children’s National facility is scheduled to open in late 2019 and will serve as a new beacon in the Takoma neighborhood of Washington, DC, which is known for its mix of unique historic properties, restaurants, fitness studios, parks, and culture.
