2016

Thanks to the artists, performers, host businesses and community for a great Art Hop 2016 weekend! 2016 EVENT PHOTOS

See you next year!

On Saturday and Sunday, April 9-10, 2016, the Takoma commercial district (DC and MD) will once again transform into a lively arts district showcasing the talents of both emerging and established visual artists and welcome visitors to our eclectic mix of local businesses.  Come and explore the local shops, restaurants and cafes, to see the work of over 100 artists on display all weekend. You will find painting, photography, mixed media, assemblage, fiber art, jewelry, glass, pottery, sculpture and more available for sale INSIDE the businesses. Take in the free performances or programs scheduled throughout the weekend!

Art Hop Hours
The event takes place INSIDE the businesses and mirrors the businesses’ hours, but generally 11-5pm on Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sunday (and later in the restaurants and cafes).  Be sure to check out the Performance list for additional activities outside of business hours.

UPDATE: SATURDAY EVENING FIRE SHOW CANCELED DUE TO WEATHER.

How to get to TAKOMA

SATURDAY UPDATE: Free performances will now take place in the spacious Adams Activity Center at EF Language School, 6896 Laurel St, NW – just steps away from the shops on Laurel Ave. Families: don’t miss the Takoma debut of The Uncle Devin Show, at 11am at EF!  A decision on the 7pm Dance Afire Fire Show will be made by 5pm on Saturday and posted on event website.

Multi-Artist Installations
Don’t miss two special, multi-member installations taking place over Art Hop weekend: DC Arts Studios welcomes the public to its annual Spring Open Studios with over 35 artist spaces and a new show in its Willow Street Gallery, ReFresh: New work from DCAS.  Anacostia Art Center will be making its Takoma debut and with 15 artists for a weekend-long installation at Historic Takoma, 7328 Carroll Ave plus a full robust program of discussions and more.

Room-Sized Synthesizer, Art Cars and More!
Experience the room-sized synthesizer at Rhizome, 6950 Maple St, NW, and check out the Art Cars display on Sunday at the Takoma Park Farmers Market on Laurel Ave! Be sure to look for the custom painted Art Hop windows by local artists on display now in various business windows throughout Takoma.

Local Wine, Local Cheese, Local Art
Enjoy a special wine and cheese tasting at Republic restaurant throughout the weekend. 4 wines, 4 cheeses: $24. Republic, 6939 Laurel Ave.
