Yoga for Bone Health and Osteoporosis: Preventing and Reversing Bone Loss
July 15 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Osteoporosis is a silent disease, often occurring without warning or symptoms and not diagnosed until you fall. It weakens bones and often results in painful and costly fractures. Osteoporosis will affect 1 in 2 women and 1 in 4 men over the age of fifty in their lifetime. Recent studies indicate that yoga, practiced the right way, can build bone mass and prevent fractures.
This workshop provides an overview of osteoporosis, including:
– Definition, prevalence, testing, risk factors, remediating factors, and physiology
– Consequences: fractures, falls, and bone health
– How yoga can counteract thinning bones without undesirable side affects
– Dos and Donts: Movements that are safe and movements to be avoided
We’ll guide you through various warm-ups and yoga poses to build muscle and bone, improve posture, balance, and overall strength as recommended by Dr. Lauren Fishman and Ellen Saltonstall.
For men and women of all ages; appropriate for those who have never done yoga, experienced students, and yoga teachers. In Silver Spring.
