An Afternoon with Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara
June 24 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pmFree
Born in Barcelona, Spain, Isabel Sánchez Vegara is the creator of the Little People Big Dreams series of children’s books celebrating the aspirations of both girls and boys who went on to become icons of visionary leadership in the arts and humanities, math and sciences, and in the fight for equality and justice. All of the people profiled in this series went on to affect and change the course of humanity and all of them, like you, began life as a little child with a dream.
In the beginning “I started writing about amazing women because I thought there was a lack of real feminine role models available for children. But the series is a celebration of the uniqueness of humankind, and any extraordinary woman or man deserves to be there. It’s just this time we reversed the order and started with the ladies. Having a dream is universal to girls and boys and people of all ages, and the series is about encouraging every kind of dream one can have.”
Books in the series include lavishly illustrated profiles of Josephine Baker, David Bowie, Mahatma Gandhi, Maria Montessori, Wilma Rudolph, and many more that go far beyond what their professional lives tell us and speak to their lasting impact on humanity.
