Takowork, a new coworking space in the heart of downtown Takoma Park, will host a Grand Opening Celebration on Thursday, September 7th at 6:30 pm. This is a great opportunity for the community to tour the space, located at 7000 Carroll Avenue, 2nd floor.
The dynamic space has come about as a collaboration between Michelle Coyle, founder of GSD Work Club, and Donna Victoria, a long-time resident and business owner in Takoma Park. The space will serve as an office for remote workers and entrepreneurs during the day and an event space for community meetings in the evenings. With colorful walls, modular desks, and comfy chaise lounges, the space has been transformed from the traditional law offices it housed for more than two decades into a modern, flexible-use space that caters to the way people work and socialize today.
“It is the best location in Takoma, and why spend time and money fighting your way into a coworking space in DC? As a business owner, I love working for myself but I really got tired of working at home. We designed Takowork to be an inclusive, welcoming space where creativity and collaboration will develop naturally among a group of people who are working towards similar goals.” says Victoria.
Takowork is located 2 blocks from the Takoma station on Metro’s Red Line in the heart of the Takoma commercial district which is filled with a mix of independently-owned stores, restaurants and coffee shops and just steps from Washington, DC. This area is home to many working in nonprofits, arts and technology. Ideal club members are small businesses or remote workers focused on social good and seeking to benefit from shared space and opportunities to team up. Takowork will be accepting applications for membership beginning on August 1st.
“We offer a space to commune for socially-focused small businesses, activists, and artists who want to be around like-minded people. Takowork provides the physical location, but also the companionship, that helps you stay motivated,” says Coyle. “We want to support your success while offering you an opportunity to help others.”
